Taking the Heat

Hot Substances or Steam

Severe burns or even death can be caused by boiling pots knocked off stoves, scalding hot showers or baths (usually children), or faulty boilers and radiators.

Be sure to:

  • Keep boiling pots secure on back burners, and do not leave handles hanging over edge of stove within a child's reach.

  • Set thermostat on water heater lower so it isn't scalding.

  • Have an authorized person check out your heating system annually.

Keeping Current with Current Always...

  • Use childproof outlet covers

  • Keep appliances in dry places

  • Replace worn or frayed cords

  • Use correct wattage light bulbs to avoid fires

  • Use grounding plugs as instructed.

Never...

  • Use appliances when you are wet

  • Overload an outlet.

If you feel a light shock from an appliance or switch, have it repaired or replaced immediately.

Explosive Materials and Fire

You might be surprised at the materials in your home that could blow up in your face if not handled properly.

Keep gasoline, paint thinner, and other volatile materials:

  • Tightly sealed.

  • Properly labeled in original containers. Don't transfer to jars!

  • Stored in a cool place out of reach of children. Buy only as much as you need - why store it around the house?

DON'T Have a Blast!
